As entrepreneurs, our lives revolve around time management, prioritisation, balancing family life and you may have realised you need to step it up on the organisation front!

So what’s all this got to do with tomatoes then?

A clever chap by the name of Francesco Cirillo came up with the idea of Time Batching that he calls ‘The Pomodoro Technique’ through the use of a timer. In his case, a tomato (or pomodoro) shaped timer.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the tasks on your Biz To-Do List (not to mention the washing, cleaning, and all the other life things!) give this a try:

1. Write down a full list of all the tasks that are stressing you out or need to be completed (no matter how big or small) and start to prioritise them into when they should be done by (1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months).

2. Set a timer for 25 MINUTES (and no, it doesn’t have to be a tomato one) and devote that time to just ONE TASK on your list (or a group of smaller similar tasks)

3. When the timer goes off take a 5 MINUTE BREAK. Have a cup of tea. Do some star jumps. Whatever will break things up for you.

4. Begin another block of time or ‘pomodoro’.

After completing 4 pomodoro’s, take an extended 20 minute break.

So it’s not about rushing through everything in 25 Minutes – it may take you 6 ‘pomodoros’ to complete a task – but it WILL help you to remain focused, get to bed at a decent time and feel pretty darn good about smashing through your to-do list one little tomatoey chunk at a time.
